Nintendo halts Switch 2 preorders due to tariffs —what this means for YOUR ecom business

Nintendo is hitting pause—literally.

Just days after announcing its new Switch 2 console would launch June 5, the company has suspended all U.S. pre-orders, according to The Japan Times (Apr 10).

Why the backpedal?

👉 Tariffs. And not just on China.
The new Trump administration policy extends painful baseline tariffs to Vietnam (46%) and Cambodia (49%)—countries Nintendo moved production to years ago to avoid previous trade tensions.

Now even Nintendo’s diversified strategy isn’t enough. Their U.S. pricing was set. Production was rolling. But with supply chain uncertainty at a high, they’re pausing to reassess.

If a $50B company is hitting the brakes…
