Trump has warmed up his tone when it comes to the trade war with China. He said that the two sides have been actively negotiating and that the tariffs will come down—but will not go to zero.
Beijing, on the other hand, has said the contrary. They said they have not had any talks with Washington and are asking that the tariffs be completely canceled before they come to the negotiating table.
Meanwhile the IMF says that the policy shifts have “spiked uncertainty off the charts”.
“Without certainty, businesses do not invest, households prefer to save rather than to spend, and this further weakens prospects for already weakened growth.”
